Session on sustainable public procurement of food & catering

Sustainable public procurement of food and catering services can be a powerful tool to transform (local) food systems, by strategically using public purchasing power to attain economic, environmental and social sustainability goals.

As part of the 2nd Edible Cities Network Conference, Advancing the Edible City: Ideas, Practices and Systems, which will take place from 15-17 March 2023, in Barcelona, we will organize a session on sustainable public procurement of food & catering. The session will discuss sustainable public food procurement policies and practices, mainly within the urban context. It will take place on Friday, March 17, 2023.

We welcome presentations, both from academics and practitioners, on the topic of sustainable food procurement. We welcome theoretical and conceptual contributions, case studies, comparative analyses, policy advice, and presentations of best practices. Presentations can be paper-based, but this is not required. Presenters are asked to express their interest by replying to the session organisers (see below for e-mail addresses), with a brief outline (max. 300 words) of the presentation. Please do so before February 2, 2023.

During the session, we will present preliminary results from our own research project on sustainable public procurement of food and catering in Norway.

The provisional programme for the EdiCitNet conference can be found here.

Registration for the full EdiCitNet conference can be done here. Registration fees for session presenters will be waived (if you will be presenting, please use the promotional code ECNGUEST).
